1 Corinthians 1.20-25
Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

“The work of salvation, in its full sense, is (1) about whole human beings, not merely souls; (2) about the present, not simply the future; and (3) about what God does through us, not merely what God does in us and through us.” – N.T. Wright

The full force of Christianity makes no sense to the world because it is selfless. It cares about every one but the self, and the power of the gospel is an inversion of the world: the first becoming last, the poor becoming rich.

This is foolish in the eyes of the world. Preposterous. Nonsense.

What is wise to the world is maximizing everything from burgers to education  to stock returns. And it’s all about you.

Our spiritual life can be this way to. We focus on how our souls over our bodies, our immediate needs over our long term desires, and on what God is doing for us instead of what God is doing through us.

Yet this what God calls salvation is Christ crucified, a Savior who takes the focus completely off of himself and focuses all body and soul on the redemption of the world.

Where is your focus as this day is coming to a close? What trajectory is your spiritual journey on?

Take a few moments to reflect on how The wisdom and power of God is directing you to step out in faith and offer yourself as a living sacrifice.
