Week 6 : Cultivating God’s Compassion

Wednesday

Call to Prayer

God’s desire is for all of humanity to have an intimate relationship with Him.  We are able to know God through his Son, Jesus Christ.  We engage in a relationship with God through studying the Scriptures and allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s love, truth and compassion, which are found in Christ Jesus.

Spend a few moments in prayer and silence preparing your heart to receive from the Holy Spirit.

Psalm & Scripture

Psalm 41:1-3 (NLT)

Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor!
The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble.
The Lord protects them
and keeps them alive.
He gives them prosperity in the land
and rescues them from their enemies.
The Lord nurses them when they are sick
and restores them to health.

Colossians 3:12-13 (NLT)

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

Time of Reflection

Thank God that he is compassionate and has forgiven you. Pray for the strength to forgive others.

In the same way you put on clothes to start the day, ask God to dress you in his tenderhearted mercy and compassion.

Missional Moment

Don’t ignore the poor.  Purchase some food for Hope Hill to give away and drop it off.  Better yet, let a neighbor know you want to get some things for the food pantry and ask if they’d come along.

Community Prayer

Pray that we keep our hands open and we develop a lifestyle of giving.  Pray that we remember that God is our provider.  As we freely receive, let us freely give.
