Week 6 : Cultivating God’s Compassion

Call to Prayer
God’s desire is for all of humanity to have an intimate relationship with Him. We are able to know God through his Son, Jesus Christ. We engage in a relationship with God through studying the Scriptures and allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s love, truth and compassion, which are found in Christ Jesus.
Spend a few moments in prayer and silence preparing your heart to receive from the Holy Spirit.
Psalm & Scripture
Psalm 40:6-10 (NLT)
You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings.
Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand—
you don’t require burnt offerings or sin offerings.
Then I said, “Look, I have come.
As is written about me in the Scriptures:
I take joy in doing your will, my God,
for your instructions are written on my heart.”
I have told all your people about your justice.
I have not been afraid to speak out,
as you, O Lord, well know.
I have not kept the good news of your justice hidden in my heart;
I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power.
I have told everyone in the great assembly
of your unfailing love and faithfulness.
Zechariah 7:8-10 (NLT)
Then this message came to Zechariah from the Lord: “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Judge fairly, and show mercy and kindness to one another. Do not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and the poor. And do not scheme against each other.
Time of Reflection
Read the passage from Zechariah over again three or four times. Let this be your heart beat and prayer throughout the day. At the end of the day, reflect on how this passage has spoken to you.
Missional Moment
If you’ve been connecting with someone throughout these 40 days, let him or her know about the love of Christ. Ask them what they think about the Easter story, not for you to convince them of anything, but to enter into dialogue.
Community Prayer
Pray for opportunities to share our faith in Christ within the context of relationships that we have already cultivated with God’s compassion.
