Week 6 : Cultivating God’s Compassion

Sunday

Call to Prayer

God’s desire is for all of humanity to have an intimate relationship with Him.  We are able to know God through his Son, Jesus Christ.  We engage in a relationship with God through studying the Scriptures and allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s love, truth and compassion, which are found in Christ Jesus.

Spend a few moments in prayer and silence preparing your heart to receive from the Holy Spirit.

Psalm & Scripture

Psalm 28:1-2 (NLT)

I pray to you, O Lord, my rock.
Do not turn a deaf ear to me.
For if you are silent,
I might as well give up and die.
Listen to my prayer for mercy
as I cry out to you for help,
as I lift my hands toward your holy sanctuary.

Matthew 5:7 (NLT)

God blesses those who are merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.

Time of Reflection

Consider some of the areas of your life that you need forgiveness in. Pray to God that he would hear your prayer and bless you with his abundant mercy.

Pray that the Holy Spirit would give you the power to show mercy to all you encounter today.

Missional Moment

This is the last week of our prayer book.  Pray that this would be a great week of you responding to God’s nudge.  For today, just show mercy where it’s needed, especially with your family.

Community Prayer

Lord, grant us a spirit of love and forgiveness to reach out to those nearest to us, especially immediate family and relatives whom we may not have spoken to in ages.  Help us to put aside past grievances and come together.
