Week 3 : God’s Truth

Thursday

Call to Prayer

God’s desire is for all of humanity to have an intimate relationship with Him.  We are able to know God through his Son, Jesus Christ.  We engage in a relationship with God through studying the Scriptures and allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s love, truth and compassion, which are found in Christ Jesus.

Spend a few moments in prayer and silence preparing your heart to receive from the Holy Spirit.

Psalm & Scripture

Psalm 78:1-7 (NLT)

O my people, listen to my instructions.
Open your ears to what I am saying,
or I will speak to you in a parable.
I will teach you hidden lessons from our past—
stories we have heard and known,
stories our ancestors handed down to us.
We will not hide these truths from our children;
we will tell the next generation
about the glorious deeds of the Lord,
about his power and his mighty wonders.
For he issued his laws to Jacob;
he gave his instructions to Israel.
He commanded our ancestors
to teach them to their children,
so the next generation might know them—
even the children not yet born—
and they in turn will teach their own children.
So each generation should set its hope anew on God,
not forgetting his glorious miracles
and obeying his commands.

John 14:1-6 (NLT)

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.”

“No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

Time of Reflection

Think of a glorious miracle you have witnessed in your life or the lives of others. Praise God for how his truth brings salvation through the work of the Holy Spirit.

Pray that the truth of Christ’s death and resurrection would bring you closer to the Father today.

Take some time to reflect on what is troubling your heart today. Give this trouble to God, and trust Christ to prepare the way for you.

Missional Moment

Have kids?  Stop today and spend time with them.  Turn off all phones, TVs, and computers and be with them.  Don’t have kids?  Watch your friends’ kids and give them a night out.

Community Prayer

Pray for the kids of Hope Hill that they would know Christ and make Him known to the kids in their neighborhood.
