Week 2 : Cultivating God’s Love

Thursday

Call to Prayer

God’s desire is for all of humanity to have an intimate relationship with Him.  We are able to know God through his Son, Jesus Christ.  We engage in a relationship with God through studying the Scriptures and allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s love, truth and compassion, which are found in Christ Jesus.

Spend a few moments in prayer and silence preparing your heart to receive from the Holy Spirit.

Psalm & Scripture

Psalm 118:1-4 (NLT)

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.

Let all Israel repeat:
“His faithful love endures forever.”
Let Aaron’s descendants, the priests, repeat:
“His faithful love endures forever.”
Let all who fear the LORD repeat:
“His faithful love endures forever.”

Galatians 5:13-15 (NLT)

For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another.

Time of Reflection

Give thanks to God and pray that his love would endure forever.

Take a few moments to think about times you have done another person wrong. Pray that the Holy Spirit would point out the anger and evil thoughts toward others in your heart.

Confess your sinful thoughts and actions to God, and pray that the Holy Spirit would plant love in your heart.

Missional Response

Is there someone you need to forgive or that needs to forgive you for a wrong you’ve done?  Seek them out and bring reconciliation to that situation.

Community Prayer

Pray for the people of Hope Hill and people you know outside our church who are having a hard time forgiving individuals who have caused harm to either himself or herself or a loved one.
