You will never accidentally make and keep the change – you will never accidentally become intimate with Jesus . There are four practical lessons that we can learn that will help us keep the change
1. Assign value to what matters most
What is going to be at the center of your life? Every man has a throne in the center of his life and something or someone is sitting there ruling the rest of his life – The Bible makes it clear that only God is worthy of and truly capable of filling that center place in our lives
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. –Matt 6:33 (NIV)
He does not want to be just first, He wants to be your focus
2. Bring your life into alignment
In order to experience success, you must bring your life into alignment with what you say you value…”value based life”…Three key areas to focus on: Schedule – how do you spend time and who with? Finances – do you give 1st fruit, 10% to God? Do you save? do you keep getting into debt? [Send some, Save some, Spend some]. Relationships – who do you really love? (I naturally really love myself…)
3. Check-up everyday (this can lead to repentance)
Things that get measured get done. We all need a compass that can help keep us on tract, God’s Word is our compass.
Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers. -1 Timothy 4:16 (ESV)
4. Defend against distractions
One of the things that you are going to have to be aware of is that you have an enemy who has a goal to get you sidetracked. We must keep our focus in the right place
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. -Hebrews 12:2
