Mark 1.12-13
And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him.

Daily living out Christ’s redemption in our lives “calls for believers to live out their baptism in time so as to allow new challenges and circumstances to draw them further on toward the fuller reception of grace and the deepening of purity of heart.” – Thomas Oden

Life does not change much after baptism. It is certainly not a bed of roses by any stretch. Life can even get worse!

Our picture of ministry is certainly not over a month spent in the wilderness hungry and fighting off temptation. Yet that happened for Jesus. His life was not that great right after he was baptized. In the midst of such temptation, God was ever present with Jesus, both the Holy Spirit and even angels. We can learn from this then that our baptism is a profound act: our circumstances might not change that dramatically, but our spiritual circumstances do. Where we were once on our own, God is now present with us. Take some time to ask God to be present with you this day, whether your day looks to be a fun one or a bleak one.
